Hardenbergh has been choreographing large outdoor, site-specific
dances since 1985. She has created several water dances: on barges
in the Mississippi River, its lock and dam system, a Wastewater
Treatment Plant, for the harbor in Duluth Minnesota, the Housatonic
River in Connecticut, a clock tower along the Volga in Russia, and
a lake park in Ely, Minnesota. Other sites include the Minnesota
Arboretum, the bombed-out Parliament Building in Sarajevo, Bosnia,
the Minneapolis Farmers Market with five Cherrypicker trucks, the
Walker Art Museum's Sculpture Garden, the Weisman Art Museum's construction
site with Bobcats, roofs of skyscrapers, and library windows.
