There are many ways to use the CDROM, Waters to the Sea: Rivers
of the Upper Mississippi, with students. The suggestions below
will start you out. If you develop additional strategies please send
them to us via e-mail at cgee@hamline.edu
and we will add them to the website.
Extension activity:
Use on your classroom computer for individual students or pairs of
students that have completed classroom activities. Have them present
to the rest of the class what they have discovered. Next, they can
mentor other students by helping them find information and navigate
through the program.
Computer Projection System:
Show video clips from the CDROM. Find vocabulary words for a section
of the CDROM on the Website. Review the vocabulary terms. Watch the
video clip together. Complete the milestone together as a class or
individually on personal computers. Use additional activities presented
on the website to review the concepts.
Docents:
Have students choose a River Milestone or one of the three introductory
segments. Have them thoroughly explore their section of the CDROM.
Have them use the guideline questions below to prepare a presentation
on the CDROM. They may then present the information to classmates,
younger students, or adults. They can also work with a small group,
present their information, and then provide help as each person explores
the CDROM on a personal computer.
